What stops people going to their GP

In Northern Ireland, we can be a bit reluctant sometimes to go to the doctor. According to a recent Public Health Agency survey, the reasons for this include:

  • worry about what my doctor might find;
  • too scared;
  • embarrassment;
  • concern about wasting my doctor’s time;
  • wouldn’t feel confident talking about my symptoms with doctor;
  • my doctor would be difficult to talk to.

It is quite common to have these concerns but it’s important they don’t stop you speaking to your doctor if you spot any signs or symptoms that worry you.
